Dr. Shobana Sekhar specializes in various aspects of head and neck oncology, including early and advanced oral cavity cancers, maxillary tumours, salivary gland tumours, and benign tumours in the head and neck region. Her expertise also encompasses local and regional flap reconstruction, post-operative rehabilitation (maxillofacial rehabilitation, dysphagia management, and voice rehabilitation post-laryngectomy), and elective and emergency tracheostomies.

Her professional memberships include the Foundation of Head and Neck Oncology, International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India, and TN AOMSI, reflecting her active involvement in the broader medical community. Dr. Shobana Sekhar is a compassionate surgeon with a comprehensive approach to patient care and a notable presence in the field of Head and Neck Oncology.

Dr. Shobana Sekhar, a highly qualified Head and Neck Oncologist, possesses a rich academic background with a BDS from RV Dental College, RGUHS, and an MDS from SRM Dental College & University. Further enhancing her expertise, she completed a Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery at Apollo Cancer Institutes, AHERF, and CCEPC – IAPC Part A & B.

 

With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Shobhana has demonstrated her proficiency in managing complex head and neck surgeries. She has contributed significantly to esteemed institutions such as Apollo Cancer Institute Hyderabad and Adyar Cancer Institute Chennai. Her commitment to knowledge dissemination is evident through her role as a faculty member in various international and national conferences.

Dr. Shobhana’s holistic approach to patient well-being is highlighted by her training in pain and palliative care. She actively engages in initiatives related to self-help, rehabilitation, and awareness. Notably, she played a pivotal role in the Laryngectomee Society at Apollo Hospitals for six years, supporting post-laryngectomy patients.

Dr. Shobhana has conducted impactful awareness programs in schools and communities, emphasizing cancer prevention and the adverse effects of tobacco, particularly in Assam.

Her contributions extend to the realm of research and innovation, evident in her numerous national and international publications. She has co-authored the book “Clinical Radiology of Head and Neck Tumours,” published by Springer.
